On the wings of a wire bird

Picture

'On the Wings of a Wire bird'

The culmination of the beginning of a journey.
a collaboration between communities and ancestors, across time and place.
This exhibition celebrates the artists reconnection with St Helena island and intersecting heritage across generations. It is an invitation to question and reconnect with our entangled past. A space to share experiences, cultures, stories, and humanity in a world where connections sometimes falter.

Extract from project press release:
'A unique and immersive experience that delves into the themes of mixed heritage and the intertwined histories of different cultures. Sophie Gresswell, known for her exploration of identity and belonging, has crafted a collection that weaves together the threads of empire, destruction, survival, and the enduring impact of Commonwealth heritage on the British identity.

Visitors will be greeted by a collaborative curtain of clay heritage heads at the entrance, as a symbol of unity. The exhibition further unfolds with large-scale poetry, embodying the thoughts of local Commonwealth communities, and captivating portraits of 'Saint' women demanding their space in history.'
